
Project Description
Ties of freedom focuses on the transition from authoritarian and totalitarian rule to democracy, highlighting lessons retained for the future on how to defend key EU values, such as democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights. The project is based on a collaborative approach to promote key democratic values through an intergenerational perspective to European Remembrance.
Objectives
- engage democracy advocates from several countries in discussions and debates on issues related to past authoritarian tendencies and emerging threats to democracy, the rule of law, and human rights in the EU today
- promote an intergenerational exchange of living a democratic life as a strategy to raise awareness among more young people; and disseminate personal stories of people who lived through the democratic transition
- promote participatory discussions among children and young people about democratic experiences and participation
- influence educators and relevant stakeholders to adopt a more active and proactive discourse in the promotion of EU democratic values

- A short animated film: Voices of freedom
- An intergenerational booklet on democratic transitions
- Toolkit to implement Democratic Talks
- Intergenerational Gaming Box about the democratic transition and the EU democratic values
- Toolkit to implement Circles of Democracy
