Technology and Digital
Digitalisation provides great opportunities, as well as various challenges in the current context. Changing not only people’s daily lives – from communications to access to information, improved services etc, but impacting almost every sector in the economy, technology is here to stay. Digitalisation comes with shifts in the labour market not only in terms of technicalities, but of employees’ competences. Digital literacy has become a main asset of the European citizen who wishes to be fully integrated in the competitive labour market. Through social innovation solutions, people can benefit from the opportunities of the digital age.
Europe has a higher penetration of broadband and Wi-Fi and broad adaptation of smartphones, compared to poorer regions in the world, allowing citizens and organisations to implement new technology into their work to help raise productivity, life quality and support growth (Atkinson, 2019).
