Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity encompasses the traits and characteristics that make people unique. Diversity is about acceptance, respect, and celebration of those differences on various dimensions: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. Inclusion refers to the creation of safe spaces for all people, regardless of their differences, by promoting welcoming behaviours and attitudes. Inclusion provides people with equal access to opportunities and resources, fosters the sense of belonging and contributes to the well-being of every individual.
However, according to research, diversity is still a barrier to the progression of European organisations which encounter difficulties in implementing D&I strategies among their employees. While D&I is a stated value or priority area for 76% of organisations, 36% of respondents still feel diversity is a barrier to employee progression (Pricewaterhouse Coopers, 2020).
